Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens

Washington, DC

A 12-year relationship has created innovative, smaller projects as part of an effort to change the museum’s direction.

The museum’s strategic plan identified the need to expand public programs and special events to reach new audiences and improve visitor amenities.  Our master plan focuses on a phased development that promotes flexibility in education, improves access throughout the entire campus, reinforces connections between building and maintains Hillwood’s identity.  A series of small-scale projects provide immediate impact and test ideas for new offerings for guests.  Building expansions, such as the new Collection and Research Center, allow the museum to reutilize significant, historic spaces that are made available once staff and collections move to their new homes.
